THE HISTORY OF THE DISTILLERY
Since the creation of the "La Malicieux" distillery in June 2021, we have had one goal in mind: to save ancestral recipes and offer a choice of Swiss made spirits as well as a selection of high-end syrup to our customers.
Although the company is recent, the first Absinthe bearing the name "Le Chat Malicieux" dates from a long time ago... Indeed, it was distilled clandestinely by Mr. Jack Guinand before leaving the shade and to be authorized again in 2005.
From 1957 to 2006,The Mischievous Cat Absinthewas distilled clandestinely in secret places in Switzerland, at Couvet and Noiraigue in Val-de-Travers, La Chaux-de-Fonds, and Val-de-Ruz.Mr. Guinand distilled with certain farmers who lent him their barns for a weekend in exchange for a bottle of "Bleue".
Apprehended several times by the Régie des Alcools and the Swiss Police, he nevertheless decided to continue to distill using only natural plants and not artificial aromas.
During his arrests, the legend says that the inspectors who knew the address, enjoyed tasting one. They urged him to come to terms with the law and come out "from the shadows." Because M. Guinand's Absinthe was "damn good"! He ends up formalizing his distillery with a license in order.
It is also said that his Asbinthe, appreciated beyond the borders throughout Europe, traveled in bottles of mineral water previously emptied and filled with the precious beverage. Fans of Mr. Guinand's Chat Malicieux ordered from year to year, even before the plant grew, to be sure to get a few bottles of their favorite Absinthe. A real passionate chemist and alchemist, this nature lover liked to pick and dry his plants. Carefully weighing all his ingredients by the gram, he perfected his formulas to develop "La Malicia".
In 2020, he will pass on to his daughter and his childhood friend, the recipes kept secret to perpetuate the story of "La Malicieuse".
